About IELTS, CELPIP & PTE Core to CLB Converter
This converter turns IELTS, CELPIP and PTE Core scores into Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) levels using IRCC's official equivalency charts from canada.ca — the same tables Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada applies when it assesses your Express Entry profile. Pick your test, enter your four ability scores, and you get an instant per-skill CLB plus your governing level, all calculated in your browser with nothing sent to a server.
CLB conversion is threshold-based and works skill by skill, which is why an "overall band" is never enough. On IELTS General Training, 6.0 in every ability equals CLB 7, while CLB 9 needs Listening 8.0 and 7.0 in the other three. CELPIP-General levels map one-to-one to CLB. PTE Core — accepted by IRCC since January 2024 — uses its own cut-offs on the 10–90 scale, such as Listening 82, Reading 78, Writing 88 and Speaking 84 for CLB 9.

It depends on the ability, because IRCC converts each skill separately. A 6.5 in Reading, Writing or Speaking is CLB 8, but a 6.5 in Listening is only CLB 7 — Listening needs 7.5 for CLB 8. That asymmetry is exactly why this tool asks for all four scores instead of an overall band: one skill can cap your whole profile.
Yes. IRCC has accepted PTE Core for economic immigration programs, including Express Entry, since January 2024. Scores on the 10–90 scale convert per skill using IRCC's published chart — for example, CLB 9 requires Listening 82, Reading 78, Writing 88 and Speaking 84, while CLB 7 requires 60, 60, 69 and 68. Note that PTE Academic is not accepted for Express Entry; it must be PTE Core.
Express Entry eligibility minimums must be met in every one of the four abilities, not on average. Federal Skilled Worker requires CLB 7 in all four; the Canadian Experience Class requires CLB 7 (TEER 0–1 jobs) or CLB 5 (TEER 2–3 jobs) in all four. So one weak skill governs whether you qualify — even though CRS points are then awarded ability by ability.

If you have strong French, it is worth converting: French ability can qualify you for category-based Express Entry draws and additional CRS points.
No. IRCC only accepts the IELTS General Training version for permanent residence programs, and the equivalency chart used here applies to General Training scores. IELTS Academic is used for study permits and some professional licensing bodies, but an Academic result cannot be entered in an Express Entry profile.
