About Income Tax Calculator (Canada)
This Canadian income tax calculator runs entirely in your browser — your salary is never uploaded, logged or stored anywhere. That makes it safe to try real numbers: your actual offer letter, the raise you are negotiating, or side income you would rather keep private.
It covers the 2026 tax year for every province and territory, from Ontario and British Columbia to Nunavut. The calculation applies the 2026 federal brackets (including the 14% lowest federal rate), each province's own brackets and basic personal amount, the federal BPA phase-out at higher incomes, the Ontario surtax, and the 16.5% Quebec federal abatement.
Treat the result as a close planning estimate rather than a filing figure. The Canada Revenue Agency's final assessment also reflects CPP and EI premiums, RRSP deductions and credits specific to your situation, so your true refund or balance owing can differ. For most salaried earners, the estimate here lands very close to the CRA's income-tax-payable figure before those adjustments.

Frequently asked questions
Your marginal rate is the tax on your next dollar of income — the bracket your top slice of earnings falls into. Your average (effective) rate is total tax divided by total income, and it is always lower, because your first dollars are covered by the basic personal amount and taxed in lower brackets. A raise is taxed at your marginal rate, but it never pushes your whole salary into that rate.
Employers withhold using CRA payroll tables, which also take CPP contributions and EI premiums on top of income tax, and may reflect pension contributions, taxable benefits or extra withholding you requested. This calculator estimates income tax only, so the total deducted from your paycheque will usually be somewhat higher than the tax shown here.
Quebec residents get a 16.5% abatement (reduction) of basic federal tax because Quebec opts out of several federally funded programs and runs its own, paid for through the separate provincial return filed with Revenu Québec. The calculator applies it automatically when you select Quebec — which is why the federal portion looks lower there even though Quebec's provincial rates are among the highest.
Federal and most provincial brackets are indexed to inflation every year: the CRA announces the indexation factor in the fall and the new thresholds apply from January 1. This calculator uses 2026 tax-year brackets and basic personal amounts (2% federal indexation, 14% lowest federal rate), and we update the figures when the CRA publishes each new year's numbers.
