About Alphabet Phonics — Learn the ABCs

Alphabet Phonics is a talking ABC board for preschool and kindergarten, roughly ages 2 to 6. Tap any of the 26 colour-coded letter tiles and that letter fills the screen with a picture word while a friendly voice says its name, its phonic sound and the word — "B. b says buh. B is for Bear." Pairing the letter shape with its sound and a keyword picture is the first step of real phonics instruction, not just alphabet-song recitation.

There are three modes. Explore is free play: tap around the grid or step letter by letter with arrows. Sing ABCs walks through the whole alphabet A to Z with a progress bar and a celebration at the end. Find it! turns letter recognition into a game — the tool asks "Can you find the letter…?", awards a star for each correct tap, gently corrects wrong ones, and remembers the best star run. A one-tap toggle switches between capital and small letters, which matters because children usually learn uppercase first but almost everything they will read is lowercase.

It is classroom-ready with no download, no app and no sign-in: it runs in any modern browser, so it works on a smartboard or projector for whole-class letter-of-the-day time, on classroom tablets at a literacy centre, or on a parent's phone. The voice comes from your device's built-in speech engine, and if a browser cannot speak, every letter still shows its picture and word. Nothing is sent anywhere — stars and settings save only on your device.

Popular uses

Kindergarten teachers running letter-of-the-day on a smartboard or projector Parents turning screen time into letter-sound practice at home ESL and newcomer families learning the English alphabet together Reading and speech tutors drilling letter-sound correspondence one-to-one Homeschool morning routine: sing the ABCs, then a five-star Find it! round

Frequently asked questions

The sweet spot is ages 2 to 6. Toddlers and preschoolers enjoy Explore and Sing ABCs for letter names and picture words, while kindergarteners get the most from Find it!, which drills the letter recognition expected by the end of pre-K. It also works well for older ESL and newcomer learners meeting the English alphabet for the first time, since nothing about the design talks down to them.

Both, in every tap. Each letter is announced three ways: its name ("B"), its most common phonic sound ("b says buh") and a keyword picture ("B is for Bear"). Hearing name and sound together builds letter-sound correspondence — the skill phonics programs list before blending and early reading — instead of leaving a child who can sing the alphabet but cannot connect letters to sounds.

The tool uses the speech engine already built into your phone, tablet or computer rather than downloading audio, which keeps it fast and private. It automatically prefers a clear English voice from whatever the device offers, so an iPad, an Android phone and a classroom laptop may each sound a little different. If a browser has no speech support at all, the letters, sounds and picture words still appear on screen.

Yes — the "Aa" toggle switches the entire board, the big stage and the Find it! game between capitals and small letters. Lowercase recognition deserves deliberate practice because b, d, p and q look alike and because the vast majority of printed text a new reader meets is lowercase, even though most children learn capital letters first.

Yes. Because it is a normal web page with large, high-contrast touch tiles, it works on interactive whiteboards, projected laptops and tablets alike — no installation, account or app-store approval needed. Teachers often run Sing ABCs as a whole-class opener, then send small groups to Find it! on tablets; stars are saved per device, so each station keeps its own score.
