About Password Generator

This password generator creates strong, random passwords entirely on your device. It draws its randomness from the Web Crypto API (crypto.getRandomValues) — the same cryptographically secure generator your browser uses for encryption — rather than the predictable Math.random() that many quick scripts rely on. Pick a length from 6 to 48 characters, toggle uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols, and regenerate as many candidates as you like with one tap.

The character sets are deliberately curated: look-alike characters — capital I and O, lowercase l, and the digits 0 and 1 — are excluded, so a password you read off a screen, print on paper or dictate over the phone can't be mistyped. A live strength meter rates each password as you adjust the settings, rewarding length milestones (8, 12 and 16 characters) and the use of at least three character types.

Because everything happens in your browser, the password is never transmitted, logged or stored — not even in local storage. Close the tab and it's gone. There is no sign-up, and once the page has loaded the generator keeps working with no internet connection at all, which makes it a safe way to mint credentials for sensitive accounts.

Popular uses

Creating a unique password for every new account before saving it to a password manager Generating Wi-Fi and router passwords that can be read aloud without 0/O or 1/l confusion IT admins issuing random first-login passwords for new staff accounts Replacing reused passwords quickly after a data-breach notification Minting long random secrets for NAS boxes, smart-home hubs and admin panels

Frequently asked questions

It depends on where the password is made. This generator builds the password locally using your browser's Web Crypto API, so nothing is sent to any server and nothing is saved afterwards — you can even switch off your internet connection after the page loads and it still works. Avoid any generator that produces passwords server-side, since those travel over the network and could in principle be logged.

Aim for at least 16 characters for anything important; use the full 48 for master passwords and encryption keys. Length matters more than clever substitutions: with all four character sets enabled the pool is roughly 70 characters, so every extra character multiplies the number of possible passwords about 70-fold. A 16-character random password from this pool is far beyond practical brute-force attacks.

Those characters are visually ambiguous — in many fonts a capital O and a zero, or a lowercase l, capital I and the digit 1, are nearly identical. Excluding them prevents typos when a password is copied by eye, printed or read aloud. The slightly smaller character pool is trivially offset by adding one extra character of length.

The meter is a heuristic: it awards points for reaching 8, 12 and 16 characters and for mixing at least three of the four character types. It's a quick sanity check rather than a crack-time guarantee — the real security comes from generating the password randomly in the first place, which this tool always does. A long, random, never-reused password is the goal.

Yes. Credential stuffing — replaying a password leaked from one site against hundreds of others — is one of the most common ways accounts get taken over. Generate a unique password here for each account and keep them in a password manager, so a breach at one service never exposes the rest.
