About Tetris
Tetris was created in 1984 by Alexey Pajitnov, a researcher at the Soviet Academy of Sciences in Moscow, on an Electronika 60 computer that could not even draw solid blocks — the first pieces were made of bracket characters. Five years later the Game Boy version turned it into a global phenomenon, and it remains one of the most-played video games in history.
This version plays by modern conventions rather than loose approximations. Pieces are dealt with a 7-bag randomiser — every set of seven pieces contains each tetromino exactly once, so droughts are capped and you can plan around the next queue shown on the right. Rotation uses the SRS system with proper wall kicks (the I-piece has its own kick table), and you get a hold slot, soft and hard drops, an optional ghost piece showing where the current piece will land, plus combo and Back-to-Back streak bonuses on top of level-scaled line scores.
The core strategy is stack management: keep the surface flat, avoid burying holes, and reserve a single-column well for the I-piece so you can score Tetrises — four lines at once — instead of drip-feeding singles. Use hold aggressively to bank an I-piece or escape an awkward S/Z, and remember gravity accelerates every level, so build habits at low speed that survive high speed.

Instead of picking each piece at random, the game shuffles all seven tetrominoes into a "bag" and deals them out before shuffling a new bag. That guarantees you see every piece once in each set of seven, so the longest possible wait between I-pieces is bounded — you can genuinely plan a Tetris well around the next queue instead of praying.
That is a wall kick, part of the SRS rotation standard used in modern Tetris. When a rotation would collide with a wall or the stack, the game tries a short list of alternative offsets and uses the first one that fits, letting pieces "kick" off walls into tight gaps. The I-piece uses its own kick table because of its length.
Clearing four lines at once is a Tetris, and it scores far more than four separate singles. If you follow one Tetris with another without any smaller clear in between, the Back-to-Back streak indicator lights up and the repeat clears earn a bonus. Any single, double or triple clear in between resets the streak; combos, counted separately, reward clearing lines on consecutive piece drops.
The ghost is the faint outline at the bottom of the board showing exactly where the current piece will land if you hard-drop it now — invaluable at high speed. You can toggle it off below the board if you find it distracting or want to train your own drop judgement, and the setting is remembered on your device.
The pad below the board gives you left/right movement (hold to auto-repeat), clockwise and counter-clockwise rotation, a hold button, soft drop and a full-width hard-drop button. You can also swipe directly on the board. On a keyboard it is arrows to move, up to rotate, space to hard-drop and P to pause.
