About Sokoban — Box Pusher
Sokoban — Japanese for 'warehouse keeper' — was created by Hiroyuki Imabayashi in 1981 and published by Thinking Rabbit the following year. The rules fit in one sentence: push every box onto a goal square. You can only push (never pull), only one box at a time, and only from the square directly behind it. Those three constraints are the whole game, and they are enough to make Sokoban one of the most studied puzzle families in computer science — solving it in general is hard enough that it is still used as a benchmark for planning algorithms.
This edition ships 40 hand-authored puzzles in the compact Microban tradition: small rooms, a handful of boxes, and one precise idea per level, with difficulty rising steadily from tutorial-simple to genuinely knotty. The game counts moves and pushes separately, remembers your best move count for every level, and gives unlimited undo, so an accidental push never forces a restart. Solved levels and your position are saved in your browser, and a level-select grid lets you jump straight to any puzzle.
The skill that separates beginners from solvers is spotting deadlocks before they happen. A box pushed into a corner is frozen for good unless that corner is a goal, and a box pinned against a wall can only ever slide along that wall. Work backwards from the goal squares: decide the order the boxes must arrive in, and make sure you can get behind each one when its turn comes. Positioning yourself is half the puzzle.

Frequently asked questions
A deadlock is a position that can never be solved no matter what you do next. The classic one is a box pushed into a corner — since you can only push, it can never leave. Boxes pinned against a wall with no goal along that wall are dead too. If you spot one, press U or Z (or the Undo chip) to step back as far as you need — the undo history is unlimited.
Every step your character takes counts as a move; a push is only counted when a box actually shifts. Sokoban tradition scores both, because a solution can be push-efficient but walk-heavy or the other way round. This game tracks both per level and flags a star when you beat your personal-best move count.
Yes — solved levels, your current level, sound preference and per-level best move counts are all stored locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to any server. Clearing the site's data or playing in a private window resets progress.
On touch screens use the D-pad below the board, or simply swipe on the board in the direction you want to walk. On desktop use the arrow keys or WASD to move, U or Z to undo, R to reset the level and N to jump to the next one.
Work backwards. Look at the goal squares and figure out which box must be placed last — usually the one whose path the already-placed boxes would block. Then check you can reach the pushing side of each box when its turn comes. On the harder of the 40 levels, most of the solution is this ordering, not the walking.
