Reading Speed — WPM

This reading speed test measures how fast you actually read in words per minute (WPM) — not just how fast you can skim. You read one of several short non-fiction passages while a timer runs, tap Done, then answer three quick comprehension questions. Your WPM is only banked as a personal best when you get at least two of the three right, so speed never counts unless you genuinely took the text in.

A second tab flips the idea around with an RSVP speed reader — Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. Instead of your eyes sweeping across each line, single words flash one at a time in a fixed spot, with a tinted focus letter and slightly longer pauses on long words and end-of-sentence punctuation. Because your gaze never travels, RSVP can push you well past your natural pace. Run it on the built-in passages or paste your own text and dial the speed anywhere from 100 to 900 WPM.

For reference, the average adult reads roughly 238 words per minute with solid comprehension; 300 and up is fast, and consistently reading above 450 with real understanding is genuinely rare. Reading on a screen tends to run a touch slower than print. All timing and scoring happen right in your browser, and your best WPM is stored only on your device.
