About Favicon Generator

There are three ways to make a favicon here: pick an emoji (transparent background by default, with an optional colour fill), type one or two letters and style them with fonts, gradients and ready-made themes, or upload your own logo and fine-tune it with zoom and padding controls. Whatever you choose can be shaped as a square, a circle or a rounded square with an adjustable corner radius.

The preview panel is built around the one place a favicon actually lives: a mock browser tab shows your icon at true 16-pixel scale next to a page title, and you can flip the tab between light and dark themes to check contrast in both. A size strip below renders the icon at 16, 32, 48, 180 and 512 pixels so nothing surprises you after download.

Exports cover the full modern checklist in one ZIP: PNGs at every size, a 180px apple-touch-icon for iOS home screens, 192px and 512px PWA icons with a matching site.webmanifest, a genuine multi-resolution favicon.ico, and an HTML snippet of link tags ready to paste into your head element. Every pixel is drawn on a canvas in your browser — an uploaded logo never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Which favicon sizes do I actually need?
A 32px PNG covers most desktop tabs, favicon.ico handles legacy browsers and old bookmarks, 180px is the apple-touch-icon iOS uses for home-screen shortcuts, and 192px plus 512px feed the Android/PWA web manifest. The ZIP download includes all of them plus a site.webmanifest, so one download satisfies browser, iOS and PWA requirements at once.
Is the favicon.ico a real ICO file or a renamed PNG?
A real one. The tool writes a genuine multi-image ICO container byte by byte in your browser: a proper ICO header and directory with 16, 32 and 48 pixel PNG-encoded entries. Browsers pick the resolution they need from the single file, which a renamed PNG cannot do.
Where do I put the files and the copied link tags?
Unzip the files into your site's root directory (or a folder like /icons) and paste the copied link tags into the head of your HTML. The snippet references root paths such as /favicon-32x32.png and /site.webmanifest, so if you host the icons in a subfolder, update the href paths to match.
Will an emoji favicon look the same for every visitor?
Yes — and that is a real advantage of this approach. The emoji is rasterised into PNG pixels using your system's emoji font at export time, so every visitor sees exactly the image you downloaded. SVG-based emoji favicons, by contrast, render in each visitor's own emoji style and can look different per platform.
Why does my icon look muddy at 16 pixels, and how do I fix it?
Sixteen pixels leaves no room for detail: thin strokes and small text simply vanish. Use the tab mock to judge honestly, then simplify — one or two bold letters instead of a full wordmark, a solid or gradient fill behind emoji for contrast, larger corner radius sparingly, and check the dark-tab preview since many users browse in dark mode.
