The echo lag is measured between two peaks in the same recording, so the phone's audio delay cancels out on its own — what's left is a small constant offset from the speaker↔mic geometry. Hold the phone's bottom edge exactly the chosen distance from a hard flat wall, then calibrate to measure and remove that offset.
