About DevWord — Daily Tech Word
DevWord is a daily Wordle-style puzzle where every answer is a five-letter tech term — words like cache, regex, proxy, nginx, kafka and async rather than everyday dictionary words. You get six guesses; after each one the tiles show green for a letter in the right spot, yellow for a letter in the word but misplaced, and grey for a letter that is not in the answer at all.
The daily word is picked deterministically from the date, so everyone playing on the same day gets the same puzzle — which is what makes comparing results fun. When you finish, you can share a spoiler-free emoji grid of your guesses, exactly like classic Wordle, and a countdown shows when the next puzzle unlocks at midnight local time.
Unlike the original Wordle, any five-letter guess is accepted, not just words from the answer list. That is deliberate: it lets you probe letters freely — guessing something like "nginx" or "redux" is a legitimate strategy even if you do not think it is the answer. The game also keeps honest stats on your device: games played, win percentage, a guess distribution chart, and a streak that resets if you skip a day, not just if you lose.

Frequently asked questions
Answers come from a curated list of five-letter tech vocabulary: programming languages (scala, swift), tools and infrastructure (nginx, redis, kafka, rsync), and everyday developer concepts (cache, stack, query, array, regex, async, tuple). If you work in or study software, most answers should feel familiar — that is the point of the puzzle.
Yes. The word is chosen from the date itself, so everyone playing on the same calendar day gets the same puzzle and the same puzzle number. The day rolls over at midnight in your local timezone, and the shared emoji grid includes the puzzle number so you can verify you and a friend solved the same one.
Open with a word that covers letters common in tech vocabulary rather than general English. Words like "stack", "react" or "cries"-style vowel-heavy openers work, but tech terms lean hard on S, T, R, C, A and E — so "react" or "carts"-shaped guesses tend to light up more tiles. Your second guess should use entirely different letters to maximise information.
Winning today extends your streak by one if you also played yesterday; otherwise a win starts a new streak at one. Losing resets it to zero, and so does skipping a day — the game checks your last-played date, so you cannot keep a streak alive by simply not playing. Streak and stats are stored locally in your browser.
No. The share button copies (or opens the native share sheet with) an emoji grid — green, yellow and black squares showing the shape of your solve and how many guesses it took. The letters themselves are never included, so you can post it in a team chat without ruining the puzzle for anyone.
