About BPM Tapper & Counter
Tap the big pad in time with any song and this counter works out its tempo in beats per minute. The maths is simple: it measures the gap between your taps, averages those intervals, and divides 60,000 milliseconds by the mean gap to get the BPM. The more evenly you tap, the closer the reading gets to the true tempo, which is why a handful of steady taps beats a couple of rushed ones.
A confidence meter tells you how much to trust the number. It looks at how consistent your tap intervals are — technically the coefficient of variation — so wobbly, uneven tapping reads low ("keep it even") while a tight, metronomic run climbs to "rock solid". You can set the averaging window to the last 4, 8, 16 or all taps: a short window reacts fast if a track speeds up, while all-taps smooths out the odd slip.
Everything else is there to get you to a usable number quickly. It rounds to the nearest common production tempo, tags a rough genre for the range you tapped, and offers half- and double-time values in one tap because it is easy to accidentally tap on the off-beat. Turn on the built-in metronome to hear your tapped tempo played back and confirm it locks to the track.

Frequently asked questions
It timestamps each tap, measures the milliseconds between consecutive taps, and averages them. Sixty thousand milliseconds divided by that average gap gives beats per minute. Because it averages, a few extra taps cancel out small timing errors and tighten the estimate — tapping for at least eight beats gives a reliable reading.
It measures how even your tapping is, not whether the number is "correct". If every gap between taps is nearly identical the confidence is high; if the gaps vary a lot it drops. So a low score is usually a hint to tap more steadily rather than a sign the song has changed tempo.
Beat perception is ambiguous — it is easy to tap on every second beat (giving half the real BPM) or on the off-beats and sub-beats (giving double). The ½× and 2× shortcuts let you grab whichever value matches the tempo your DJ software or DAW expects without re-tapping.
It sets how many recent tap intervals feed the calculation. A short window (last 4) reacts quickly, which is handy if a live track drifts in tempo; a longer window or "all taps" averages out momentary slips for a rock-solid reading on a steady song.
Aim for at least eight steady taps. Two taps already produce a rough figure, but the confidence meter only rises — and the reading only settles — once you have tapped consistently through several beats. Keep a relaxed, even pulse rather than tapping hard.
